Learn to row

If you've already got some experience and are a competent rower, you can jump over to https://www.nubc.com.au/registration/ and signup as a club member. Once the relevant fees have been paid, one of our club members will be in touch to organise a time to show you around, induct you to the sheds and familiarise you with where we row, and how we organise sessions.

Learn to Row

Towards the start of each semester we run a learn to row program which covers the basics of sculling (that's a fancy way of saying rowing with two oars). Due to the universities insurance regulations, you must be a current student or staff member to participate in the program. Your first session is free!

What you'll need:

  • Socks (that may get a little damp)
  • Slides or crocs if you have them
  • Joggers
  • Hat if it's hot
  • You should wear activewear that can get wet and isn't too loose
  • A water bottle and a snack or two if you get hungry in the mornings
  • Although capsizes are rare, It's advisable to bring a spare jumper/top and towel just in case (we have showers at the shed)

Where we row:

273 Duckenfield Road, Berry Park, NSW, 2322

We're the 3rd building along the lane, on the left-hand side of the property as you drive in.

How to get there:

There really is only one main option for getting to the sheds which is driving. So if that isn't an option for you, find a friend who does drive and bring them along.

When do we train:

The shed is open every morning and some afternoons during summer which allows you to train as much or as little as you like.

We run specific Learn To Row sessions every Saturday morning from 8am to 10am.

Forming crews is one of the first things we do each session so please do your best to be on time! Like most university group work, if you're late then you may not get a good group. Rowing is a great way to meet people and make great friends so if you get along with someone during the learn to row, why not make a plan to train together.

Hopefully that'll cover everything although if you've got any questions you can either drop an email to secretary@nubc.com.au, shoot us a message on Facebook, find us on Instagram or drop a Whatsapp message to one of the committee. We will get back to you!

How do I sign up?

You'll need to come to an induction session, and after that, register on here via our Membership page. Once you're signed up, you can recieve all club commuinications through the Spond App, sign up by following this link.
