Constructing NUBC at Berry Park

Since 1964, the club was located at Raymond Terrace in the old Hunter River Steamship Company warehouse in King Street Raymond Terrace.

The building was erected in the 1800s and by the early 2000s it was deemed unsafe and dilapidated. The club temporarily relocated to Berry Park leasing 5 boat racks and space for a coaching boat from Endeavour Rowing Club (ERC) whilst plans were underway to find a permanent location.

During 2003 and 2004 after significant efforts from members of the club, NUsport and the University, a new shed was built alongside two other rowing clubs: Hunter Valley Grammar School and ERC at Berry Park.

NUsport and Endeavour Rowing Club reached an agreement in which ERC would manage the building of a Boat Shed with the University paying all expenses associated with construction and paying ERC a management fee of 10% of invoiced costs. NU sport paid $29,000 up front settlement of the rent in full for a 50-year lease to 10 April 2054. Construction of the new boat shed was completed on 9 April 2004 the same day the club moved their boats in. The club house cost a total of $270,000 of which $22,423 went to ERC as the project management fee. Although the rent had been fully paid up, the University retained an ongoing commitment to an annual management fee of $1,000 indexed to inflation plus a half share of all site costs such as services and maintenance.
